Via Zoom ONLY at 12:00pm
Description: Please join the Family Law Section on Friday, February 16, 2024, for a presentation by Jessica Dayton and Mirissa McMurray.
Family Law Lawyers Are Trial Lawyers. There is no reason for your family law trial to be prepared with any less precision than any other litigation. Jessica Dayton and Mirissa McMurray are experienced litigators who will share practice pointers on how to streamline your trial prep and make the most of your pre-trial exchange with opposing counsel. They will provide strategies on use of experts, presentation of evidence, and motions in limine. With the exception of the newly passed SB741, the rules of Evidence do indeed apply to family law trials. They will discuss this and other necessary skills for an effective presentation of your case.
Jessica Dayton, a founding partner of ADZ Law, LLP, is a Certified Family Law Specialist who dedicates her practice to representing victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Her practice includes pursuing civil tort remedies for survivors against first and third party perpetrators, as well as advising and advocating for victim’s rights in criminal cases. Ms. Dayton is the current president of the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers association and serves on the advisory boards of the Family Violence Appellate Project and WOMEN-SV. Ms. Dayton is active in local and national public policy advocacy and has worked on many legislative campaigns regarding domestic violence, sexual assault and victims’ rights.
Mirissa McMurray is a Certified Family Law Specialist who appreciates how Family Law allows practitioners to advocate in such a vast variety of topics ranging from parentage, to restraining orders, business valuations and fiduciary duties. Her first years in Family Law were at Bay Area Legal Aid and the Family Law Facilitator’s Office. She has been in private practice since 2009. Ms. McMurray’s enthusiasm for the art of trial advocacy leads her to coaching her Alma Mater’s high school mock trial team as she has done for over 15 years. She serves on the Pro Bono Advisory Committee for the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County and the San Mateo County Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service Committee.
